Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture therapy combined with medicinal diet on premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). Methods:A total of 60 cases of POI patients admitted to the Nanping People's Hospital Affiliated to Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from September 2021 to September 2023 were selected and divided into the observation group and the control group according to the random number table method, with 30 cases in each group. The observation group received acupuncture combined with medicinal diet, and the control group was treated with Femoston. The levels of sex hormones [follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), FSH/luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2), anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH)], antral follicle count (AFC), uterine volume, average bilateral ovarian volume, and modified Kupperman scores were compared between the two groups after three and six months of treatment. Results: After three and six months of treatment, both groups showed a significant decrease in the levels of FSH and FSH/LH compared to those before treatment (P<0.05),with a downward trend( P< 0.05). Both groups also showed a significant increase in the levels of AMH and E2 compared to those before treatment (P<0.05),with an upward trend (P<0.05). However, there were no significant differences in the levels of AMH (except those after six months of treatment),FSH,FSH/LH,and E2 between the two groups at the same time points (P>0.05). After six months of treatment, the AMH level in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). After three and six months of treatment, both groups showed a significant increase in AFC, uterine volume, and average bilateral ovarian volume compared to those before treatment(P<0.05). However, there were no significant differences in AFC (except those after six months of treatment), uterine volume, and average bilateral ovarian volume between the two groups at the same time points (P>0.05). After six months of treatment, the AFC in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). After three and six months of treatment, both groups showed a significant decrease in modified Kupperman scores compared to those before treatment (P<0.05). However, there were no significant differences in modified Kupperman scores between the two groups at the same time points (P>0.05). Conclusion:Acupuncture therapy combined with medicinal diet is similar to Femoston in improving the levels of FSH,FSH/LH and E2,uterine volume, average bilateral ovarian volume, and modified Kupperman scores. After six months of treatment, acupuncture therapy combined with medicinal diet is superior to Femoston in improving the levels of AFC and AMH.
