Abstract:Objective:To observe the curative effect of the combination use of catgut embedment in acupoints and Chinese herbal fumigation on simple obesity of spleen-kidney yang deficiency type. Methods: A total of 61 patients with simple obesity of spleen-kidney yang deficiency type admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Chinese Medicine from January 2022 to June 2023 were selected and divided into the catgut embedment group (20 cases), the fumigation group (20 cases) and the combination group (21 cases) according to the random number table method. One case dropped off in the combination group, and finally 20 cases were included in each group. The three groups were given intervention of diet and exercises. The catgut embedment group was treated with catgut embedment in acupoints, the fumigation group was treated with Chinese herbal fumigation, and the combination group was treated with acupoint catgut embedment combined with Chinese herbal fumigation. The three groups were treated for three months. The changes in body fat percentage (BFP),body mass index (BMI),waistline, hipline and glucolipid metabolism indexes [triglyceride (TG), serum total cholesterol (TC) and fasting blood glucose (FBG)], and the clinical effects and incidence of adverse reactions were compared among the three groups. Results:After three months of treatment, the total clinical effective rate was 90.00% (18/20) in the combination group, higher than that of 60.00% (12/20) in the catgut embedment group and 55.00% (11/20) in the fumigation group (P<0.05). The BMI and BFP in the three groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment, and the BMI and BFP in the combination group were lower than those in the fumigation group and the catgut embedment group (P<0.05). The waistline and hipline in the three groups were reduced when compared with those before treatment, and the waistline and hipline in the combination group were lower than those in the catgut embedment group and the fumigation group (P<0.05). The levels of TG,TC and FBG in the three groups were dwindled when compared with those before treatment, and the above three levels in the combination group were lower than those in the catgut embedment group and the fumigation group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference being found in the comparison of incidence of adverse reactions among the three groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: The combination use of catgut embedment in acupoints and Chinese herbal fumigation has a great curative effect on simple obesity of spleen-kidney yang deficiency type, which has an ideal weight loss effect, can significantly reduce the waistline and hipline of patients, and improve the glucolipid metabolism with great safety profile.
