Abstract: Objective: To investigate the clinical effects of modified Daotan Decoction combined with Bagua acupuncture therapy in treating abdominal obesity of the internal retention of phlegm-damp type. Methods:A total of 92 patients with abdominal obesity of internal retention of phlegm-damp type treated at Zhoushan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from August 2021 to August 2023 were selected and randomly divided into a control group and a study group, each with 46 cases. Both groups received basic treatment. The control group was additionally treated with Bagua acupuncture therapy, while the study group was additionally treated with modified Daotan Decoction based on the control group's treatment. Clinical effects, body weight, body mass index (BMI),liver fat content, gastrointestinal motility indices (postprandial electrogastrogram amplitude, the slow wave ratio of gastric motility rhythm, and antral contraction frequency),insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR), and levels of leptin, adiponectin, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), visfatin, and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) were compared between the two groups. Results:After treament, the total effective rate in the study group was 97.78% (44/45),higher than that of 81.82% (36/44) in the control group (P<0.05). The liver fat content, body weight, and BMI in the two groups were lower compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the study group were lower than the control group (P< 0.05). The postprandial electrogastrogram amplitude, the slow wave ratio of gastric motility rhythm, and antral contraction frequency in the two groups were higher compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the study group were higher than the control group (P<0.05). The levels of HOMA-IR,visfatin,and leptin in the two groups were lower compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the study group were lower than the control group (P<0.05), while the level of adiponectin in the two groups were higher compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the study group was higher than the control goup (P<0.05). The hs-CRP content in the two groups were lower compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the study group was lower than the control group (P<0.05),the T-AOC content in the two groups were higher compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the study group was higher than the control goup(P<0.05). Conclusion: Modified Daotan Decoction combined with Bagua acupuncture therapy can improve the levels of adipocytokines, inhibit inflammation and oxidative stress, reduce liver fat content, improve insulin resistance, enhance gastrointestinal motility, bring down body weight and BMI,and enhance clinical efficacy in patients with abdominal obesity of internal retention of phlegm-damp type.
