Clinical Study on Treatment of Herpes Simplex Keratitis of Wind-Heat Invading Eyes Type with Press Needles, Shugan Yiqi Jiedu Decoction Combined with Western Medicine
Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of press needles, Shugan Yiqi Jiedu Decoction combined with western medicine in the treatment of herpes simplex keratitis (HSK) of wind-heat invading eyes type. Methods:A total of 100 patients with HSK of wind-heat invading eyes type treated at Yancheng Hospital of Chinese Medicine Affiliated to Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine from January 2021 to December 2023 were selected and divided into the control group and the treatment group with 50 patients in each group via a random number table method. The control group was treated with western medicine, while the treatment group received additional treatment with press needles and Shugan Yiqi Jiedu Decoction on the basis of the control group. Both groups were treated for 20 consecutive days. The clinical effects and recurrence rate were compared between the two groups, and the best corrected visual acuity, symptom scores, and corneal ulcer area before and after treatment were recorded. Results:After treatment, the total effective rate was 93.33%( 42/45) in the treatment group and 80.49%( 33/41) in the control group. The clinical effect in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group (tested by rank sum test),the difference being significant (P<0.05). The best corrected visual acuity was improved in both groups when respectively compared with that before treatment, and the best corrected visual acuity in the treatment group was better than that in the control group, differences being significant( P<0.05). The symptom scores were decreased in both groups when compared with those before treatment, and the symptom scores in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group, differences being significant (P<0.05). The corneal ulcer area was decreased in both groups when respectively compared with that before treatment, and the corneal ulcer area in the treatment group was smaller than that in the control group, differences being significant (P<0.05). During the follow-up at three and six months after treatment, the recurrence rates in the control group were 4.88% (2/41) and 12.20% (5/41),respectively,while the recurrence rates in the treatment group were 0 and 4.44% (2/45), the differences were not statistically significant (P>0.05). Conclusion:The combination of press needles,Shugan Yiqi Jiedu Decoction, and western medicine has a significant effect on the treatment of HSK of wind-heat invading eyes type, effectively improving clinical symptoms, enhancing visual acuity, and promoting corneal ulcer healing.
