Abstract: This article introduces Professor TONG Guangdong's clinical experience in treating liver cirrhosis ascites based on the differentiation of qi,water, blood, and deficiency. Professor TONG believes that liver cirrhosis ascites corresponds to the Chinese medicine concept of tympanites. He proposes a three-step differentiation principle: first, discerning subtle changes; second, identifying key points; and third, determining appropriate timing. In treatment,he emphasizes soothing the liver and regulating qi to move water, invigorating blood and resolving dampness to promote urination, and tonifying qi and warming to promote urination. These principles of qi, water, blood, and deficiency are integrated throughout the entire process of diagnosing and treating liver cirrhotic ascites.
