Effects of Niuxi Huoxue Decoction on Fracture Healing and Ankle Function in Patients Undergoing Minimally Invasive Percutaneous Internal Fixation with Hollow Screw for Ankle Fracture
Abstract:Objective:To observe the effects of Niuxi Huoxue Decoction on fracture healing and ankle function in patients with ankle fracture (AF) after minimally invasive percutaneous internal fixation with hollow screw. Methods: A total of 150 patients with AF who underwent minimally invasive percutaneous internal fixation with hollow screw at the Second People´s Hospital of Haining from January 2019 to December 2023 were selected and divided into a control group and a combination group by the random number table medthod,each with 75 cases. The control group was treated with Aceclofenac Tablets after surgery,while the combination group was additionally treated with Niuxi Huoxue Decoction, with both groups receiving treatment for four weeks. Clinical efficacy,pain disappearance time,fracture healing time, ankle function (Kofoed scores), range of motion of the ankle joint, inflammatory factors, and quality of life [Short Form Health Survey (SF-36)] were compared between the two groups. Results: The excellent and good rate in the combination group was 85.33% (64/75),higher than that in the control group at 66.67% (50/75),with the difference being significant (P<0.05). The combination group had shorter pain disappearance time and fracture healing time than the control group,with differences being significant (P<0.05). After treatment,the Kofoed scores in both groups were increased compared to those before treatment, with the combination group having higher scores than the control group (P<0.05). The active plantar flexion and dorsiflexion ranges of motion of the ankle joint were increased in both groups, with the combination group showing greater improvements than the control group (P<0.05). Levels of Creactive protein (CRP) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were decreased in both groups, with the combination group having lower levels than the control group (P<0.05). The SF-36 scores also were increased in both groups,with the combination group having higher scores than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion:Niuxi Huoxue Decoction can effectively improve ankle function,inhibit inflammatory reactions,reduce pain,and promote fracture healing in patients with AF after minimally invasive percutaneous internal fixation with hollow screw, thereby enhancing their quality of life.
