Effect of Acupuncture at Acupoints Combined with SET Suspension Technique on Postoperative Pain and Muscle Atrophy in Patients with Rotator Cuff Injuries
Abstract:Objective:To analyze the effect of acupuncture at acupoints combined with SET suspension technique on postoperative pain and muscle atrophy in patients with rotator cuff injuries. Methods: A total of 70 patients with rotator cuff injuries admitted to Hangzhou TCM Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University from January 2023 to December 2023 were selected and divided into the control group and the study group. Patients were randomly divided into a control group and a study group based on the parity (odd or even) of their visit numbers, with 35 cases in each group. The control group received acupuncture at acupoints, while the study group received intervention with SET suspension technique in addition to the treatment given to the control group. Shoulder joint function [assessed by the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Shoulder Scoring System],pain intensity [assessed by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores], integrated electromyography (iEMG) of rotator cuff muscles, degree of muscle atrophy, and elastic modulus (E-value) of rotator cuff muscles and tendons were compared between the two groups. Results:After treatment, the UCLA scores of shoulder function in both groups were increased when compared with those before treatment( P<0.05),and the UCLA scores of shoulder function in the study group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the ranges of motion (ROM) of shoulder joint external rotation, internal rotation, abduction, and abduction in both groups were increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the sub-item ROM of shoulder joint in the study group was greater than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the VAS scores of pain in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P< 0.05),and the VAS scores in the study group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the iEMG of the anterior, middle, and posterior bundle of deltoid at abduction angular velocity of 60 and 120 rad/s were increased in both groups compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and all of the above iEMGs in the study group were superior to those in the control group (P <0.05). After treatment, the improvement in muscle atrophy grade in the study group was better than that in the control group, the difference being significant( P<0.05). After treatment, the E-values of rotator cuff muscles and tendons in both groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the E-values in the study group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture at acupoints combined with SET suspension technique has a positive effect on the postoperative recovery of patients with rotator cuff injuries, effectively alleviating postoperative pain, inhibiting muscle atrophy, and improving muscle function and tendon elasticity.
