Abstract: Objective: To summarize YU Genchu's medication rules by data mining the formulas for treating diseases of six-meridians in Chong Ding Tong Su Shang Han Lun (Revised Popular Guide to ‘Treatise on Cold Damage’). Methods:Formulas for six-meridian diseases from the Six Meridian Formulas and Herbs section of Chong Ding Tong Su Shang Han Lun were selected as the study subject. A database was established, the statistical analysis on use of frequency, nature, flavors and meridian entries of Chinese medicinals was done, and the association rules and cluster analyses were conducted. Results : A total of 113 internal herbal formulas were screened, including 40 prescriptions using fresh herbs, involving 217 herbal types( 15 fresh herbs). High-frequency herbs( used ≥10 times) included 21 types. Medicinal properties were primarily warm, cold, and neutral;medicinal flavors were predominantly acrid, bitter, and sweet; herbs mainly entered the spleen, stomach, and lung meridians. The most strongly associated herbal pairs were Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma-Jujubae Fructus,Rhei Radix et Rhizoma-Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma-Zingiberis Rhizoma. Cluster analysis identified six groups of Chinese herbs, corresponding to syndrome differentiation and treatment of six-meridian diseases. Conclusion:YU Genchu's approach to treating six meridian diseases is characterized by diverse therapeutic strategies, gentle and precise medication, a strong emphasis on the spleen and stomach, and exceptional skill in resolving dampness. While he applies the six-meridians theory in medication,he adheres to ancient principles.
