Abstract：Objective：To observe the curative effect of the combination use of Huanglian Ejiao Decoction and Methotrexate Tablets on rheumatoid arthritis （RA） and its effect on serum estradiol （E 2 ） and high density lipoprotein （HDL）. Methods：A total of 60 RA patients of liver-kidney yin deficiency type were selected from the Department of Chinese Medicine Rheumatology， Union Shenzhen Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology from January 2022 to June 2023 and were divided into the treatment group and the control group according to the random number table method，with 30 cases in each group. The control group was given Methotrexate Tablets，and the treatment group was additionally treated with Huanglian Ejiao Decoction on the basis of the treatment in the control group. Both groups were treated for 12 weeks. The curative effects on traditional Chinese medicine syndromes，and the changes in the levels of E 2 ，HDL，C-reactive protein （CRP），erythrocyte sedimentation rate （ESR），tumor necrosis factor-α （TNF-α），interleukin-6 （IL-6） and Disease Activity Score in 28 joints （DAS28） before and after treatment were respectively compared between the two groups. Results：The total effective rate of traditional Chinese medicine syndromes was 70.00% （21/30） in the treatment group，and 56.67% （17/30） in the control group，the difference being significant （P＜0.05）. After treatment，the levels of CRP，ESR and TNF-α and DAS28 scores in the two groups were reduced （P＜0.05）；the levels of CRP and ESR and DAS28 score in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group （P＜0.05），and the TNF-α level in the control group was lower than that in the treatment group （P＜ 0.05）. The levels of E 2 and HDL in the treatment group were higher than those before treatment （P＜0.05），and the E 2 level was higher than that in the control group （P＜0.05），the IL-6 level in the control group were reduced （P＜0.05）. Conclusion： The combination use of Huanglian E'jiao Decoction and Methotrexate Tablets can improve clinical symptoms of RA of liver-kidney yin deficiency type，and improve the quality of life with a significant anti-inflammatory effect.
