Abstract: Objective: To observe the curative effect of Tongluo Zhibi Decoction combined with acupoint application on knee osteoarthritis of wind-cold-damp impediment type. Methods:A total of 126 cases of patients with knee osteoarthritis of wind-cold-damp impediment type were divided into the Chinese medicine group, the acupoint application group, and the combination group according to the random number table method, with 42 cases in each group. All three groups underwent knee arthroscopy debridement. After surgery, the Chinese medicine group received Tongluo Zhibi Decoction, the acupoint application group received acupoint application, and the combination group received both Tongluo Zhibi Decoction and acupoint application. Clinical effects and adverse reactions were compared among the three groups. Additionally, the changes in knee pain severity [Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores],knee swelling, knee function [Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC)], and levels of inflammatory factors [tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α),interleukin-6 (IL-6),and interleukin-1β (IL-1β)] in the three groups were compared before and after treatment. Results:The total effective rate in the combination group was 95.24% (40/42),significantly higher than 78.57% (33/42) in the Chinese medicine group and 76.19% (32/42) in the acupoint application group (P<0.05). After treatment, VAS scores were decreased in all three groups (P<0.05), with the combination group showing lower score than the other two groups (P<0.05). Knee swelling reduced in all three groups (P<0.05),with the combination group showing the greatest reduction (P<0.05). After treatment,WOMAC scores for pain, stiffness and function, and the total scores were decreased in all three groups, with the combination group showing the lowest scores (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of TNF-α,IL-6,and IL-1β in serum were decreased in all three groups (P<0.05), with the combination group showing the lowest levels (P<0.05). No significant adverse reactions were observed in any of the groups during the treatment period. Conclusion: Tongluo Zhibi Decoction combined with acupoint application has a good curative effect in treating knee osteoarthritis of windcold- damp impediment type, reducing inflammatory responses, alleviating post-arthroscopy pain and swelling, and improving knee function.
