Clinical Study on Prevention of Adverse Reactions After Chemotherapy in Elderly Tumor Patients Using Chinese Medicine Point Application Combined with Chinese Medicine Hot Compress
Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine point application combined with Chinese medicine hot compress in preventing adverse reactions after chemotherapy in elderly tumor patients. Methods: A total of 102 elderly tumor patients undergoing chemotherapy who were treated at Ningbo Beilun District People's Hospital from May 2023 to May 2024 were selected. Based on the post-chemotherapy intervention methods, they were divided into the control group (53 cases) and the combination group (49 cases). The control group received Chinese medicine hot compress intervention, while the combination group received Chinese medicine point application intervention based on the treatment in the control group. Both groups were intervened until the third day after chemotherapy. The incidence and severity of adverse reactions, pain levels, psychological states, quality-of-life scores, and subsequent chemotherapy acceptance rates were compared between the two groups. Results:On the third day after chemotherapy, the incidence rates of phlebitis, ascites, and nausea/vomiting in the combination group were all lower than those in the control group (P<0.05),and the severity of adverse reactions in the combination group was milder than that in the control group (P<0.05). At 6 hours,24 hours, and on the second day after chemotherapy, the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores for pain in the combination group were all lower than those in the control group at the corresponding time points (P<0.05). On the third day after chemotherapy, there was no significant difference in pain VAS scores between the two groups (P>0.05). On the third day after chemotherapy, the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) scores in both groups decreased compared with those before chemotherapy (P<0.05),and the SAS and SDS scores in the combination group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) scores in both groups increased compared with those before chemotherapy (P<0.05),and the KPS score in the combination group was higher than that in the control group (P< 0.05). The acceptance rate of subsequent chemotherapy in the combination group was 87.76% (43/49), which was higher than that in the control group ( 71.70%,38/53)( P<0.05). Conclusion:The intervention of Chinese medicine point application combined with Chinese medicine hot compress is more effective than using Chinese medicine hot compress alone in preventing adverse reactions after chemotherapy in elderly tumor patients. It can alleviate pain, improve negative mental states, and enhance the quality of life.
