Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of self-formulated Yangyin Qingfei Decoction delivered by iontophoresis and traditional point application on chronic cough in children, and their effects on lung function and levels of immunoglobulin E (IgE) and immunoglobulin A (IgA) in serum. Methods: A total of 80 cases of children with chronic cough treated at Chun'an County Maternal and Child Health Hospital from May 2022 to October 2023 were included and divided into the study group and the control group according to the random number table method, with 40 cases in each group. The control group received traditional point application with Yangyin Qingfei Decoction, and the study group received iontophoresis with Yangyin Qingfei Decoction. The treatment course was 14 days for both groups. Clinical effects, time to symptom relief, lung function indicators [forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1),peak expiratory flow (PEF),forced vital capacity (FVC),respiratory rate (RR)],and levels of IgE and IgA in serum were compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, the total effective rate was 95.00% (38/40) in the study group and 77.50% (31/40) in the control group, with a significant difference between the two groups( P<0.05). The study group showed shorter time to cough reduction, disappearance of lung rales, and clear breath sounds compared to the control group, with significant differences (P<0.05). After treatment, both groups showed increased levels of FEV1, PEF, and FVC compared to before treatment (P<0.05), and decreased RR levels (P<0.05);the study group had higher levels of FEV1,PEF,and FVC than the control group (P<0.05) and lower RR level than the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, both groups showed decreased IgE levels and increased IgA levels compared to before treatment (P<0.05); the study group had lower IgE level than the control group (P<0.05) and higher IgA level than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Yangyin Qingfei Decoction delivered by iontophoresis and traditional point application have a definite curative effect in treating chronic cough in children. It can significantly alleviate clinical symptoms and improve lung function and immune function, with iontophoresis being superior to traditional point application.
