Abstract: Objective: To observe the effects of auricular point seed-pressing on cognitive function and depression in patients with mild cognitive impairment (CI) induced by maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). Methods: A total of 70 patients who underwent MHD and were screened with mild CI in the Hemodialysis Department of The Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine from December 2023 to April 2024 were selected and divided into the control group and the intervention group using the random number table method, with 35 cases in each group. The control group was treated with conventional therapy in the Hemodialysis Department, and the intervention group was additionally treated with auricular point seed-pressing on the basis of treatment in the control group. The changes in the scores of Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Patient Health Questionnaire- 9 (PHQ-9) were observed before and after four courses intervention, and the curative effects were evaluated. Results:After four courses of intervention, the MMSE scores in the intervention group showed a significant increase compared with those before intervention and were higher than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). No significant difference was found in MMSE scores before and after the study period within the control group (P>0.05). After four courses of intervention,The PHQ-9 scores of the two groups were decreased when compared with those before intervention, and the PHQ-9 score of the intervention group was lower than that of the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). The total effective rate of the intervention group was 80.6% (25/31), which was higher than 36.6% (11/30) of the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion:Auricular point seed-pressing can improve the cognitive function and alleviate the depressive symptoms in patients with mild CI induced by MHD.
