Clinical Application of CAI Bai's Syndrome Differentiation and Treatment Combined with Constitutional Regulation in Prevention and Management of Chronic Diarrhea
Abstract:Professor CAI Bai proposes that the prevention and treatment of chronic diarrhea should follow a trinity diagnostic and treatment approach of “constitution-syndrome-therapy,” emphasizing the integration of syndrome differentiation and treatment with constitutional regulation, which aims to enhance therapeutic efficacy and correct constitutional imbalances. Commonly-seen traditional Chinese medicine syndromes of chronic diarrhea include spleenstomach deficiency, insufficiency of kidney yang, liver qi attacking the spleen,phlegm-damp disturbing the spleen, and cold and heat in complexity. These respectively correspond to qi deficiency constitution, yang deficiency constitution, qi stagnation constitution, phlegm-damp constitution, and upper heat-lower cold constitution. For patients with different syndromes,Professor CAI advocates precise treatment principles such as strengthening the spleen and boosting qi,warming yang and inducing astringency, suppressing the liver and supporting the spleen, fortifying the spleen and dissolving phlegm, and simultaneously treating cold-heat. For patients with distinct constitutions, he recommends dietary adjustments, exercise guidance, acupoint health preservation, and emotional counseling for daily
