Construction and Application of Traditional Chinese Medicine Nursing Management Protocol for Patients with Sepsis-Induced Acute Gastrointestinal Injury
Abstract: Objective: To develop a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) nursing management protocol for patients with sepsis-induced acute gastrointestinal injury (AGI),involving syndrome differentiation-based medication, dietary therapy, lifestyle guidance, and therapeutic techniques, and evaluate the clinical effects. Methods:A total of 80 patients with sepsis-induced AGI admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine from June 2022 to July 2024 were divided into two groups (40 cases each) based on admission time. The control group received conventional treatment and nursing, while the observation group received the TCM nursing management protocol. Data on the severity of AGI, inflammatory indicators, and prognostic indicators were collected and compared between the two groups. Results:Of the 80 patients,37 in the control group and 38 in the observation group completed the study. After intervention, both groups showed reductions in AGI grading, gastrointestinal dysfunction scores, and TCM symptom severity scores (P<0.05), with greater reductions in the observation group (P<0.05). After intervention, the levels of white blood cell (WBC) count, C-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin (PCT) decreased in both groups (P<0.05),with lower levels in the observation group (P<0.05). After intervention, the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation Ⅱ (APACHE Ⅱ) scores decreased in both groups (P<0.05), with lower scores in the observation group (P<0.05). The ICU duration was shorter in the observation group( P<0.05). No significant difference was found in 28-day mortality between the two groups( P>0.05). Conclusion: The TCM nursing management protocol developed in this study is scientifically feasible and effectively improves gastrointestinal symptoms, inflammatory responses, and prognosis in patients with sepsis-induced AGI.
