Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture for xerophthalmia with liver and kidney yin deficiency syndrome and its effects on hemodynamics in ophthalmic artery. Methods:A total of 113 cases of patients with xerophthalmia with liver and kidney yin deficiency syndrome, treated at the Department of Ophthalmology in Lishui Municipal Central Hospital from August 2022 to August 2023,were divided into the control group(57 cases)and the observation group(56 cases)according to the random number table method. The control group was treated with Sodium Hyaluronate Eye Drops combined with meibomian gland massage, and the observation group was additionally treated with acupuncture based on treatment of the control group. Clinical effects, traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, hemodynamic indicators in ophthalmic artery [end-diastolic velocity(EDV),peak systolic velocity(PSV), and resistance index(RI)of ophthalmic artery],and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results:After four weeks of treatment, the total effective rate was 96.43%(54/56)in the observation group and 80.70%(46/57)in the control group, with a significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05). After four weeks of treatment, traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores in the two groups were decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05),with the observation group scoring lower than the control group(P<0.05). After four weeks of treatment, the levels of EDV and PSV in the two groups were increased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05),and RI values reduced when compared with those before treatment(P<0.05);the levels of EDV and PSV in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05),and the RI value was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05). During treatment, the incidence of adverse reactions was 7.14%(4/56) in the observation group and 8.77%(5/57)in the control group, with no significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion:Acupuncture for xerophthalmia with liver and kidney yin deficiency syndrome can improve clinical efficacy, significantly ameliorate traditional Chinese medicine syndromes and hemodynamic status in ophthalmic artery.
