Abstract： Mori Cortex was first documented in Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing（Shen Nong's Classic of the Materia Medica）. However，its original descriptions were obscure and challenging for clinical application. Later medical texts popularized its use in pulmonary disorders， which inadvertently obscured its fundamental properties as described in Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing. Professor XU Jiadong revisited the original meaning of Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing and proposed new clinical applications for Mori Cortex，including replenishing body fluids of the five zang organs and fluids， regulating water metabolism，and replenishing qi to alleviate fatigue. Based on the concept of body fluids，Professor XU's Mori Cortex-class prescriptions have achieved remarkable efficacy in treating refractory and critical illnesses.
