Abstract:This article introduces HUANG Songbai's clinical experience in treating lung nodules with the resolving method. Modern medicine lacks effective interventions for lung nodules that do not yet meet surgical criteria. HUANG Songbai proposes that the core pathogenesis of lung nodules lies in the blending of phlegm, blood stasis, heat, and toxin with each other. Their dynamic progression can be categorized into three stages. At the early stage, the pathogenesis is characterized by phlegm and blood stasis obstructing collaterals;at the middle stage, that of heat and toxin stagnating collaterals;and at the late stage that of toxin-induced deficiency of healthy qi. This evolution parallels the inflammation-cancer transition mechanism in oncology. Based on the resolving method,HUANG advocates a trinity therapeutic approach for lung nodules:dissolving phlegm and dissipating masses, clearing heat and detoxifying, and supporting healthy qi to inhibit cancer. The emphasis is placed on cutting off the toxin to prevent deterioration once it occurs, using heat-clearing and detoxifying herbs to block the transformation of heat-toxin into cancer-toxin. Treatment strategies are dynamically adjusted according to the nodule stage, with modified Xiaoluo Wan for dissolving phlegm and dissipating masses. This approach synergistically integrates clearing heat and detoxifying, and supporting healthy qi to inhibit cancer, stressing the dynamic therapeutic principle of simultaneous application of purging and nourishing.
