Abstract: Objective: To observe the facial and tongue diagnostic image features of schizophrenia patients compared to healthy individuals and explore their value in clinical diagnosis. Methods: Using Chinese medicine intelligent diagnostic instruments to collect facial and tongue images from 162 schizophrenia patients at the Sanlin Campus of the Mental Health Center Affiliated to Tongji University and 135 healthy individuals collected by Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The facial and tongue features in the two groups were analyzed and compared. Results: Compared to the healthy group, the L value of facial diagnostic parameters in the schizophrenia group was decreased and the values of a and b were increased(P<0.05);the L and a values of lip color were decreased (P<0.05);the proportion of normal facial complexion and pale face was reduced(P<0.05),and the proportion of red and blackish complexion was increased(P<0.05); the proportion of individuals with dull facial complexion was increased(P<0.05); and the proportion of dark red lip color was decreased(P<0.05). In terms of tongue color distribution, the schizophrenia group had a higher proportion of red tongue(P<0.05), a decrease in the L and a values of tongue color parameters(P<0.05)and an increase in the b value of tongue color parameters(P<0.05),a decrease in the L,a,and b values of tongue coating color(P<0.05),and an increased proportion of individuals with thick coating and cracked tongue(P<0.05). Conclusion: Schizophrenia patients tend to have darker tongue and coating colors,a higher proportion of red tongue, and a higher proportion of thick coating and cracked tongue compared to healthy individuals. Therefore, facial and tongue diagnostic parameters can provide objective evidence to assist in the clinical diagnosis of schizophrenia.
