Effect of Dense-Sparse Wave Electroacupuncture Combined with Tongdu Tiaoshen Moxibustion on Neurological Function Recovery in Patients with Spinal Cord Injury
Abstract: Objective: To observe the effect of dense-sparse wave electroacupuncture combined with Tongdu Tiaoshen moxibustion on neurological function recovery in patients with spinal cord injury. Methods : A total of 80 patients with spinal cord injury admitted to the Department of Rehabilitation of The Second People's Hospital of Lishui from January 2021 to October 2024 were selected and divided into the electroacupuncture group and the combined group by the random number table method, with 40 cases in each group. The electroacupuncture group received conventional rehabilitation therapy and dense-sparse wave electroacupuncture, while the combined group additionally received Tongdu Tiaoshen moxibustion on the basis of the electroacupuncture group. Clinical effects, imaging index values, severity scores(needling sensation, sphincter management, light touch), neuroelectrophysiological index values [peroneal motor nerve conduction velocity(PMNCV),ulnar nerve conduction velocity, tibial nerve conduction velocity],andneurobiochemicalindexvalues [neuron-specificenolase(NSE),neurotrophin-3(NT-3),malondialdehyde (MDA)] were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results:The cure rate was 75.00%(30/ 40)in the combined group and 40.00%(16/40)in the electroacupuncture group, the difference being significant(P< 0.05). After treatment, the maximum spinal cord compression degree and intramedullary high-signal range decreased in both groups(P<0.05),and the combined group had lower values in both indicators than the electroacupuncture group (P<0.05). The scores of needling sensation, sphincter management, and light touch increased in both groups after treatment(P<0.05), and the combined group had higher scores in all three indicators than the electroacupuncture group(P<0.05). PMNCV, ulnar nerve conduction velocity, and tibial nerve conduction velocity increased in both groups after treatment (P<0.05), and the combined group had higher values in all three indicators than the electroacupuncture group(P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of NSE and MDA decreased, while NT-3 levels increased in both groups(P<0.05);the combined group had lower NSE and MDA levels(P<0.05)and higher NT-3 levels(P<0.05)than the electroacupuncture group. Conclusion: Dense-sparse wave electroacupuncture combined with Tongdu Tiaoshen moxibustion has a better effect on the treatment of spinal cord injury, which can effectively alleviate the degree of spinal cord injury and promote neurological function recovery.
