Abstract:FENG Zhengen holds that sudden deafness correlates with the dysfunction of the brain and all zang-fu organs, but it is primarily attributed to the brain, liver, gallbladder, and kidney. The core pathogenesis involves either dysregulated qi flow due to liver-gallbladder dysfunction or liver-kidney deficiency. Impaired qi-blood flow around the ears causes auditory dysfunction, and qi-blood insufficiency around the ears leads to deafness, and thus the treatment should be based on deficiency-excess syndrome differentiation. When applying acupuncture and moxibustion to treat sudden deafness,FENG Zhengen emphasizes primary differentiation between deficiency and excess syndromes to guide the acupoint selection, followed by detailed differentiation of syndrome types for flexible modified prescription, and attention should be paid to the regulation of emotional states and and functions of zang-fu organs, which demonstrates a good clinical effect.
