Abstract:Professor LAI Haibiao believes that the basic pathogenesis of erectile dysfunction is the obstruction of yang qi and the lack of nourishment to the sinew channels. Combining the characteristics of the modern context, he advocates primarily focusing on protecting the spleen and stomach's function of decomposition, transportation, and transformation to treat erectile dysfunction. In clinical treatment,he often directly regulates the spleen and stomach or indirectly regulates them by regulating other viscera, and thus proposes the academic viewpoint of "tonifying and unblocking theShu andYing acupoints with the care of the Yangming meridian." This paper traces back to the source of classic Chinese medicine theory, starting from the treatment principle of " regulating the deficiency and excess, harmonizing along or against the meridian " in Chapter 44(Theory of Atrophy)ofSu Wen (Plain Questions) and analyzes Professor LAI Haibiao's clinical treatment ideas from three aspects: " the five viscera cause atrophy, " "treating atrophy by exclusively taking the Yangming meridian, "and"supplementing their Ying acupoints and unblocking theirShu acupoints." It elaborates on his clinical experience of "tonifying and unblocking theShu andYing acupoints with the care of the Yangming meridian, " in order to more clearly identify the core causes of erectile dysfunction and focus on syndrome differentiation and treatment.
