Abstract: Depression is often accompanied by somatic symptoms such as body pain, limited mobility, and insomnia. Chinese medicine believes that these symptoms are mainly related to the abnormal metabolism of the liver, spleen, and other visceral organs,as well as the stagnation of qi and blood. In recent years, medical practitioners have found that the relationship between muscle and blood(circulation)in superficial needle medicine is highly correlated with the Chinese medicine theory of qi and blood, and thus proposed the "new theory of qi and blood." The "new theory of qi and blood" suggests that qi in Chinese medicine is similar to muscle movement and function in the human body, while blood is similar to the movement of blood circulation, and the relationship between qi and blood is analogous to the relationship between muscle and blood circulation. In clinical practice, it is believed that the symptoms of qi stagnation and blood stasis, which are commonly seen in patients with somatic symptoms of depression, can be treated by relaxing muscles and improving blood circulation with superficial needle therapy.
