Abstract: This article introduces Professor FENG Shulan's clinical experience in treating intractable facial paralysis based on the theory of sinew-meridian and the knot-releasing method, integrated with modern anatomical knowledge. Professor FENG believes that the pathogenesis of intractable facial paralysis is characterized by qi and blood deficiency as the root, and internal retention of phlegm-stasis as the manifestation, with the disease located in the sinews and the muscles, presenting as excess in the collaterals and deficiency in the meridians. Innovating based on the knot-releasing theory from Huang Di Nei Jing(The Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic),she proposed using acupotomy instead of acupuncture needles, operating along the meridians rather than at fixed acupoints. By applying specialized facial palpation techniques, she identifies and releases reactive knot points in the facial sinews, thereby improving facial blood circulation, eliminating abnormal tissue compression, and restoring facial muscle function through muscle mechanical balance adjustment.
