Introduction to WANG Jiankang's Experience in Syndrome Differentiation and Treat⁃ ment of Tophi Based on Theory of "Overeating of Fat Meat and Fine Grain Causing Abscesses"
Abstract: This article presents Professor WANG Jiankang's clinical experience in syndrome differentiation and treatment of tophi using the classical theory of "Gao Liang Zhi Bian,Zu Sheng Da Ding(overeating of fat meat and fine grain causing abscesses)". Professor WANG interprets "Zu" as the foot and "Da Ding" as tophi, termed "Ding Stones". Chronic consumption of greasy foods damages the spleen and stomach, and affects the triple energizer. Through meridian and collateral transmission, water and fluid retention as well as phlegm-damp accumulation in articular cartilage, bursae, helix, tendon sheaths, periarticular tissues, subcutaneous layers, and renal interstitium, forming tophi. Pathogenesis involves lung-spleen deficiency with damp-turbidity stagnating in the triple energizer and the lung and the spleen, and permeating muscles, bones and tendons, and membranes. Treatment employs the modified selfformulated Shengjiang Xiezhuo Decoction to resolve stone-like phlegm aggregations in collaterals.
