Abstract:Diabetic panvascular disease is a common complication of diabetes, and its pathological mechanism is closely related to iron overload-mediated oxidative stress and inflammatory responses. In traditional Chinese medicine, diabetic panvascular disease can be categorized under diseases of vessels and collaterals, with the pathological progression involving spleen deficiency leading to impaired transportation, blood stasis obstruction, internal generation of toxins, and vessels and collaterals damage. The mechanism by which iron overload induces a hypercoagulable state and mediates oxidative stress to promote vascular damage aligns the traditional Chinese medicine pathogenesis of "deficiency-stasis-toxin-damage." Chinese medicine that tonify spleen and supplement deficiency, invigorate blood and dissolve stasis, and clear heat and resolve toxins can potentially prevent and treat diabetic panvascular disease by regulating iron overload. This provides new insights and references for the integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine treatment of this condition.
