Clinical Study of Kaiyang Shantang Prescription in Treating Fatigue in Elderly Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus of Yang-Deficiency and Dampness-Encumbered Pattern
Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of Kaiyang Shantang Prescription in alleviating fatigue in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) of yang-deficiency and dampness-encumbered pattern. Methods: Sixty elderly patients who met the inclusion criteria and were treated at Shantou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from June 1 to December 31, 2024 were selected and then divided into a control group and a treatment group using a random number table method,with 30 patients in each group. The control group received oral Metformin Hydrochloride Tablets,while the treatment group received Kaiyang Shantang Prescription in addition to the control group's regimen. Both groups were treated for one month. Clinical efficacy of Chinese medicine was compared between the two groups after treatment. Changes in Fatigue Severity Scale(FSS) score, Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory-20(MFI-20)score,fasting blood glucose(FBG),and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose(P2hBG)were assessed before and after treatment. Results: The total effective rate was 96.67%(29/30)in the treatment group and 50.00%(15/30)in the control group,with a statistically significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05). After treatment, FSS score, MFI-20 total score and physical fatigue dimension, FBG, and P2hBG in the control group were all lower than those before treatment,with significant differences(P<0.05). After treatment,FSS score, MFI-20 total score and all dimension scores,FBG,and P2hBG in the treatment group were all lower than those before treatment,with significant differences(P<0.05). The treatment group exhibited lower FSS score,MFI-20 total score and all dimension scores,and P2hBG than the control group after treatment,with significant differences(P<0.05). Conclusion: Kaiyang Shantang Prescription is effective in treating fatigue in elderly patients with T2DM of yangdeficiency and dampness-encumbered pattern and can improve blood glucose levels.
