Abstract: This paper is to introduce Professor LIU Jinwen's clinical experience in treating edema after joint replacement surgery with carp soup. Hypoproteinemia after the joint replacement surgery is a common complication, which is closely related to surgical trauma, stress response and protein metabolism disorder, and can lead to poor prognosis. Professor LIU holds that postoperative edema in lower limbs is related to qi-blood depletion,spleen-kidney yang deficiency and obstruction of meridians and collaterals. He proposes to use carp soup which can fortify the spleen and induce diuresis and nourish the body as an auxiliary treatment.
