Abstract: Objective: To observe the therapeutic efficacy of Jiuzi Dihuang Decoction combined with Calcium Dobesilate Capsules in the treatment of elderly patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) and its impact on inflammatory factors. Methods:A total of 60 elderly DR patients admitted to Zhoushan Hospital between January 2021 and January 2023 were selected and divided into the control group and the treatment group according to the random number table method, with 30 patients in each group. The control group was treated with Calcium Dobesilate Capsules, while the treatment group received Jiuzi Dihuang Decoction in addition to the control group′s treatment. The clinical efficacy and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Changes in traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores and serum inflammatory factor levels [interleukin-6 (IL-6), procalcitonin (PCT), and C-reactive protein (CRP)] before and after treatment were also compared between the two groups. Results: The total clinical efficacy rate was 96.67% (29/30) in the treatment group and 70.00% (21/30) in the control group,with a significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). After treatment, the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores for dim vision, dry eyes, dizziness and headache, soreness and weakness in the waist and knee, and retention of dry stool decreased in both groups compared with those before treatment (P<0.05). The treatment group had lower scores for these five traditional Chinese medicine syndromes than the control group (P<0.05). After treatment,the levels of IL-6,PCT,and CRP decreased in both groups compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the treatment group had lower levels of these three inflammatory factors than the control group (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 23.33%(7/30) in the control group and 3.33%(1/30) in the treatment group,with a significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion:Jiuzi Dihuang Decoction combined with Calcium Dobesilate Capsules can effectively treat DR in the elderly, alleviate clinical symptoms, reduce inflammatory responses, and achieve higher safety.
