Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of acupoint application combined with aerosol inhalation in the treatment of laryngeal cough and its recurrence. Methods:A total of 150 patients with laryngeal cough diagnosed and treated at Huzhou Nanxun People′s Hospital from July 2023 to April 2024 were selected and divided into the control group (90 cases) and the study group (60 cases) based on different treatment methods. The control group received aerosol inhalation therapy alone, while the study group received acupoint application at Tiantu (RN22) and Dazhui (DU14) points combined with aerosol inhalation. The clinical efficacy, incidence of adverse reactions, and recurrence rate were compared between the two groups. Changes in traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores and clinical sign scores [Pharyngeal Mucosal Chronic Hyperemia Score (PMCHS) , Pharyngeal Mucosal Edema Score (PMES), Postpharyngeal Lymphatic Follicle Hyperplasia Score (PLFHS)] before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results: The total effective rate of clinical efficacy in the study group was 91.67% (55/60),compared to 78.89% (71/90) in the control group, with a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). After treatment, traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores for cough, throat itching, dry mouth and throat, and throat pain decreased in both groups compared to before treatment, and the scores for these four traditional Chinese medicine syndromes in the study group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, PMCHS, PMES, and PLFHS scores decreased in both groups compared to before treatment (P< 0.05), and the scores in the study group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05). The recurrence rate was 7.27% (4/55) in the study group and 23.94% (17/71) in the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupoint application combined with aerosol inhalation is effective in treating laryngeal cough, alleviating clinical symptoms, reducing pharyngeal congestion and edema, and improving postpharyngeal lymphatic follicle hyperplasia. It demonstrates higher safety and lower risk of recurrence.
