Abstract:Objective:To explore the application effect of scenario simulation teaching method in nurse-patient communication training for intern nurses. Methods:A total of 60 intern nurses who rotated through the Department of Cardiovascular Arrhythmia at the Main Hospital, Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine between June 2021 and May 2023 were selected and divided into the trial group and the control group based on their training period. The control group (n=30) included interns trained from June 2021 to May 2022 using traditional demonstration-based teaching, while the trial group (n=30) included interns trained from June 2022 to May 2023 using scenario simulation teaching. The Liverpool Communication Skills Assessment Scale (LCSAS) was used to compare pre- and post-training scores between the two groups, and teaching evaluation scores were collected upon completion of the rotation. Results: Before training, there were no significant differences in LCSAS dimension scores or total scores between the two groups (P>0.05). After training, both groups showed improvements in total scores and scores of basic communication competencies, respect for patients and empathy, and questioning and information-gathering abilities compared to pre- training (P<0.05). The trial group achieved significantly higher scores in all dimensions and total scores compared to the control group( P<0.05). Upon rotation completion, the trial group showed higher scores of the teaching quality than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The scenario simulation teaching method outperforms traditional demonstration-based teaching in nurse-patient communication training for intern nurses, effectively enhancing communication competencies, respect for patients and empathy, and questioning and information-gathering abilities, while increasing intern satisfaction with departmental teaching.
