Clinical Efficacy of Eucalyptol,Limonene and Pinene Enteric Capsules Combined with Compound Liquorice Tablets for Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis and Its Effect on Pulmonary Function
Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of Eucalyptol, Limonene and Pinene Enteric Capsules combined with Compound Liquorice Tablets in the treatment of acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (CB) and its effects on pulmonary function and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. Methods: A total of 120 patients with acute exacerbation of CB admitted to Taizhou Central Hospital from January 2023 to December 2024 were selected and divided into the control group and the trial group using the odd-even grouping method, with 60 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Eucalyptol, Limonene and Pinene Enteric Capsules, while the trial group was treated with Eucalyptol,Limonene and Pinene Enteric Capsules combined with Compound Liquorice Tablets. The clinical efficacy and the disappearance time of clinical symptoms were compared between the two groups. Changes in pulmonary function indicators [forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV),maximum mid-expiratory flow (MMEF)],CRP levels,Bronchitis Severity Score (BSS),and St. George′s Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) scores before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results:After treatment, the total clinical effective rate was 91.67% (55/60) in the trial group and 78.33% (47/60) in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the values of FVC, FEV1, MVV, and MMEF increased in both groups compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and these four indicators in the trial group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment,CRP levels decreased in both groups compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the CRP level in the trial group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the disappearance times of pulmonary rales, dyspnea, expectoration, and cough in the trial group were shorter than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the BSS and SGRQ scores decreased in both groups compared with those before treatment( P<0.05),and the BSS and SGRQ scores in the trial group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Eucalyptol, Limonene and Pinene Enteric Capsules combined with Compound Liquorice Tablets demonstrate good efficacy in the treatment of acute exacerbation of CB,which can improve pulmonary function, reduce CRP levels, alleviate symptoms, promote symptom disappearance, and enhance quality of life.
