Abstract:Objective:To analyze the syndrome differentiation and acupoint selection rules of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) cupping therapy for painful bi of the neck using data mining techniques. Methods:Literature related to cupping therapy for painful bi of the neck was retrieved from databases including China National Knowledge Infrastructure( CNKI),Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform( Wanfang),China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), China Biology Medicine disc (CBM), PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and The Excerpta Medica Database (Embase) from their inception until April 1, 2025. A database of TCM cupping acupoint prescriptions was established, and descriptive analysis, association rule analysis, and cluster analysis were performed using R 4.4.0. Results: A total of 101 articles were collected, yielding 115 prescriptions. High-frequency acupoints (used over 30 times) were Dazhui (GV14),Jianjing (GB21),Fengchi (GB20),cervical Jiaji (EX-B2), Ashi points, and Tianzong (SI11). The most frequently used meridians were the foot-shaoyang gallbladder meridian, foot-taiyang bladder meridian, governor vessel, and hand-taiyang small intestine meridian. Among specific acupoint categories, the eight influential points were the most frequently used. Association rule analysis revealed core acupoint combinations:Dazhui (GV14) - Tianzhu (BL10),Ashi points - Tianzong (SI11),Ashi points - Jianjing (GB21) - Tianzong (SI11),and Dazhui (GV14) - Fengchi (GB20) - Tianzong (SI11). Cluster analysis identified five effective clusters. Conclusion:In the treatment of painful bi of the neck with TCM cupping therapy, the selection of acupoints is centered on Dazhui (GV14) and Jianjing (GB21). The overall acupoint selection primarily follows the yangming meridians, with a particular focus on the eight influential points as the main category of specific acupoints. The core acupoint combination is Dazhui (GV14) - Tianzhu (BL10). The treatment principle is mainly to regulate and tonify the liver and kidney, unblock the meridians and collaterals, and dispel wind, disperse cold, and eliminate dampness.
