Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture and medication for infertility induced by polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) with obesity from the perspective of the heart. Methods:Eighty infertility patients with PCOS complicated by obesity admitted to Huzhou Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital were divided into the Diane group and the acupuncture-medication group using the random number table method based on their admission registration number, with 40 cases in each group. The Diane group received oral Metformin and Diane-35,while the acupuncture-medication group received acupuncture primarily based on the back-shu and front-mu acupoints of the heart meridian, combined with modified Guizhi Fuling Pills. Both groups were treated for six menstrual cycles. Changes in levels of serum inflammatory factors [C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF-α)], blood lipid indicators [triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)], sex hormones [luteinizing hormone (LH), testosterone (T), estradiol (E2)], and constitution scores were compared before and after treatment between the two groups. Posttreatment ovulation rates and pregnancy rates were also compared. Results:After treatment, serum levels of CRP and TNF-α decreased in both groups compared to before treatment (P<0.05),and the levels of the two indicators in the acupuncture-medication group were lower than those in the Diane group (P<0.05). After treatment, TC, TG, and LDL-C levels decreased in both groups compared to before treatment (P<0.05),while HDL-C levels increased (P< 0.05); moreover, TC, TG, and LDL-C levels in the acupuncture-medication group were lower than those in the Diane group (P<0.05), and HDL-C levels were higher (P<0.05). After treatment, LH and T levels decreased in both groups compared to before treatment (P<0.05),and E2 levels increased significantly (P<0.05);moreover,the LH and T levels in the acupuncture-medication group were lower than those in the Diane group (P<0.05),and the E2 level was higher (P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in FSH and PRL levels before and after treatment in either group (P>0.05). After treatment, constitution scores decreased in acupuncture-medicication group compared to before treatment (P<0.05),and the score in the acupuncture-medication group was lower than that in the Diane group (P<0.05). The ovulation rate was 83.10% (168/202) in the acupuncture-medication group and 45.10% (94/208) in the Diane group, with a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). The pregnancy rate was 55.00% (22/40) in the acupuncture-medication group and 25.00% (10/40) in the Diane group, showing a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). No acupuncture- or medication-related adverse reactions were observed in either group during the treatment. Conclusion:Treating infertility induced by PCOS with obesity from the perspective of the heart demonstrates good clinical efficacy, potentially by reducing systemic inflammatory responses, improving dyslipidemia, regulating sex hormone levels, and ameliorating constitution, thereby enhancing the pregnancy success rate in patients.
