Abstract:Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of penetrating needling combined with acupoint injection in the treatment of idiopathic facial paralysis in the recovery phase. Methods:A total of 126 patients with idiopathic facial paralysis admitted to Lishui People's Hospital between July 2022 and December 2023 were selected as study subjects and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group using a random number table method , with 63 cases in each group. The control group received acupoint injection therapy, while the observation group received additional penetrating needling therapy based on the control group's treatment. Both groups were treated continuously for two weeks. Clinical efficacy, facial muscle function, facial nerve function grading, clinical symptoms, quality of life, and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results:After treatment, the total effective rate in the observation group was 92.06% (58/63),which was higher than 71.43% (45/63) in the control group (P< 0.05). After treatment, the M-wave amplitudes of the frontal muscle, orbicularis oris muscle, orbicularis oculi muscle, and quadratus labii superioris muscle increased in both groups compared with those before treatment, and the observation group showed higher amplitudes than the control group (P<0.05). The motor latency periods of these muscles shortened in both groups compared with those before treatment, and the observation group exhibited shorter latency periods than the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the facial nerve function grading improved in both groups compared with that before treatment, and the observation group demonstrated better improvement than the control group (P<0.05). The Portmann scores for facial paralysis increased in both groups after treatment, and the observation group had higher Portmann scores than the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the physical function scores increased in both groups compared with those before treatment, and the observation group showed higher scores than the control group (P<0.05). The social life function scores decreased in both groups compared with those before treatment, and the observation group had lower scores than the control group (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion:Penetrating needling combined with acupoint injection demonstrates favorable therapeutic effects for idiopathic facial paralysis in the recovery phase, improving facial muscle function, nerve function, clinical symptoms, the quality of life, with a high safety profile.
