Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical effect of combination use of Bazhen Decoction and Calcium Carbonate D3 Tablets on intertrochanteric fracture of femur (IFF) in elderly. Methods:A total of 60 elderly inpatients with unilateral IFF admitted into Sanmenxia Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from September 2022 to December 2024 were selected and randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group according to the random number table method, with 30 cases per group. Both groups were treated with closed reduction and proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) internal fixation. The control group received Calcium Carbonate D3 Tablets after surgery, and the treatment group was given both Bazhen Decoction and Calcium Carbonate D3 Tablets after surgery. The treatment course was four weeks. The clinical effects, complications, and incidence of adverse reactions, as well as the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, Harris Hip scores, VAS scores, and the levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), D-Dimer (D-D), osteoprotegerin (OPG), and bone gla protein (BGP) before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results: The total effective rate was 93.33% (28/30) in the treatment group, higher than that of 73.33% (22/30) in the control group, the difference being significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores and VAS scores in both groups decreased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the two scores in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P< 0.05). After treatment, the Harris Hip scores in the two groups increased when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05), and the above scores in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group (P< 0.05).After treatment, the levels of CRP and D-D in the two groups decreased when compared with those on the first day after surgery (P<0.05),and the levels of OPG and BGP increased when compared with those on the first day after surgery (P<0.05);the levels of CRP and D-D in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group (P< 0.05),and the levels of OPG and BGP were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). During hospitalization, no serious drug-related abnormal reactions such as rash, bleeding, and vomiting occurred in the two groups. Conclusion: The combination use of Bazhen Decoction and Calcium Carbonate D3 Tablets has a significant curative effect on IFF in the elderly, which can effectively relieve pain, improve the hip function, promote the fracture healing, reduce the body's inflammatory responses, and improve the coagulation function and bone metabolism.
