Abstract: Objective: To observe the immediate curative effect of auricular acupoint seed-pressing combined with instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization on stiff neck. Methods : Random grouping was carried out on 153 patients with stiff neck treated in the department of rehabilitation medicine and department of acupuncture and moxibustion of Shanghai Fengxian District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from January 2021 to May 2025,with 51 cases respectively assigned to the auricular point group, the instrument group, and the combination group. The auricular point group received auricular acupoint seed-pressing; the instrument group was administered instrumentassisted soft tissue mobilization; and the combination group was given instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization combined with auricular acupoint seed-pressing. The three groups were treated only once. The variations in the Short- Form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ),including present pain intensity( PPI),pain rating index( PRI),scores of Visual Analogue Scale( VAS) and cervical range of motion scores were observed before and after treatment in all three groups, and the clinical effects were compared among the three groups. Results:After treatment, the total effective rate was 96.1% (49/51) in the combination group, higher than that of 94.1% (48/51) in the instrument group and that of 88.2% (45/51) in the auricular point group, with no significant difference being found in the comparison of total effective rate among the three groups (P>0.05). The cured and markedly improved rate was 49.0% (25/51) in the combination group, higher than that of 17.6% (9/51) in the instrument group and that of 15.7% (8/51) in the auricular point group, differences being significant( P<0.05);there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of cured and markedly improved rate between the instrument group and the auricular point group (P>0.05). After treatment, the scores of PRI, VAS, PPI, and SF-MPQ in the three groups decreased when compared with those before treatment( P<0.05);the above four scores in the combination group were lower than those in the auricular point group (P<0.05) and the scores of PRI and SF-MPQ were lower than those in the instrument group (P<0.05); the VAS score in the instrument group was lower than that in the auricular point group (P<0.05). After treatment, the cervical range of motion scores in the three groups reduced when compared with those before treatment (P<0.05),and the cervical range of motion score in the combination group was lower than that in the instrument group and the auricular point group (P<0.05);there was no significant difference being found in the comparison of cervical range of motion score between the instrument group and the auricular point group (P>0.05). Conclusion: The combination use of auricular acupoint seed-pressing and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization achieves a higher clinical effect on stiff neck, which can effectively relieve the neck pain and cervical range of motion.
