Abstract: This article systematically reviews clinical research literature on the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) with traditional Chinese medicine published domestically and internationally from January 1, 2020 to January 31, 2025, summarizing stage-specific diagnosis and treatment strategies. In the early stage, emphasis is placed on supporting healthy qi and regulating viscera, while also eliminating pathogens to improve related symptoms. In the middle stage, equal importance is given to reinforcing healthy qi and eliminating pathogens to preserve the kidney function. In the late stage, the focus shifts to activating blood circulation and discharging turbidity, as well as regulating qi movement to delay disease progression. Through stage-based syndrome differentiation and treatment, traditional Chinese medicine achieves comprehensive intervention throughout the course of CKD. When combined with western medical therapies,it demonstrates favorable efficacy in improving clinical symptoms, reducing complications, and delaying the initiation of dialysis.
