Abstract: Cancer anorexia-cachexia syndrome (CACS) is a complex metabolic syndrome related to cancer and anti-cancer treatments, which severely affects patients' quality of life and is difficult to treat with conventional western medicine. Appropriate Chinese medicine techniques have demonstrated unique value in the treatment of CACS due to their advantages of less adverse reactions, low dependency, and addressing both symptoms and root causes. The CACS falls under the category of consumptive disease in Chinese medicine, with its core etiology and pathogenesis related to cancer toxin and healthy qi deficiency. Impairment of the spleen and stomach is a key factor. Clinically, the syndrome differentiation is primarily deficiency-based, with spleen-stomach deficiency syndrome as the foundational syndrome type. Treatment often focuses on fortifying the spleen and harmonizing the stomach,as well as regulating qi movements. This article reviews the application of appropriate Chinese medicine techniques in CACS, including acupuncture, moxibustion, warm needling, tuina, auricular acupoint therapy, and acupoint application. These techniques exert positive effects by inhibiting inflammatory responses, regulating gut microbiota, improving gastrointestinal function, and modulating serum appetite factors. They contribute to enhancing patients' appetite, increasing body weight, improving nutritional indicators, and enhancing quality of life. However, existing research has limitations such as insufficient breadth of exploration, inadequate investigation of mechanisms, suboptimal study design, and lack of unified evaluation criteria. Further in-depth exploration is needed to provide a more solid foundation for the clinical application of appropriate Chinese medicine techniques in treating CACS.
