Abstract:Objective:To analyze the medication patterns of the Xiushui Branch of Zhejiang School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for palpitations using data mining. Methods: Medical cases of palpitations treated by practitioners of the Xiushui Branch of Zhejiang School of TCM were collected from 17 publications of the Xiushui School. A database was constructed using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance Computing System V3.5. The input data were subjected to statistical analysis of four natures, five flavors, meridian tropism, and therapeutic effects using the "Statistical Analysis" module. The "Formula Analysis" module was employed to conduct analyses of medicine frequency, medicine combinations, and core medicine combinations through frequency analysis, association rule analysis, and cluster analysis. Results: A total of 67 medical cases and 67 prescriptions involving 180 types of Chinese herbs were collected. The top 10 most frequently used Chinese herbs were Sclerotium Poriae Pararadicis, Paeoniae Radix Alba, Pinelliae Rhizoma, Polygalae Radix, Rehmanniae Radix, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Ostreae Concha,Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma,Ziziphi Spinosae Semen, and Coptidis Rhizoma. The natures of these Chinese herbs were mainly cold, warm, and neutral; the flavors were predominantly bitter, sweet, and pungent; the meridian tropism mainly involved the heart, spleen, lung, and liver meridians; and the therapeutic effects were mainly deficiency-tonifying,heat-clearing,and qi-regulating. The top 5 most frequently used medicinal pairs identified by association rule analysis were Sclerotium Poriae Pararadicis-Polygalae Radix, Sclerotium Poriae Pararadicis-Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma,Sclerotium Poriae Pararadicis-Paeoniae Radix Alba,Sclerotium Poriae Pararadicis-Ziziphi Spinosae Semen, and Polygalae Radix-Ziziphi Spinosae Semen. K-means clustering analysis yielded 5 core formulas: Sclerotium Poriae Pararadicis-Polygalae Radix-Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma- Angelicae Sinensis Radix-Rehmanniae Radix-Astragali Radix, Sclerotium Poriae Pararadicis-Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma-Bambusae Caulis in Taenias-Moutan Cortex-Dens Draconis-Codonopsis Radix,Pinelliae Rhizoma- Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium-Poria-Caulis Polygoni Multiflori-Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma-Coptidis Rhizoma, Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma-Haliotidis Concha-Paeoniae Radix Alba-Ostreae Concha-Cinnamomi Ramulus- Dens Draconis, and Cyperi Rhizoma-Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum-Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma-Paeoniae Radix Alba-Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium-Bupleuri Radix. Conclusion: The Xiushui Branch of Zhejiang School of TCM's treatment of palpitations is characterized by the use of formulas that mainly focus on strengthening the spleen and nourishing the heart, warming and tonifying the heart yang, clearing heat and resolving phlegm, soothing the liver and regulating qi, and suppressing fright and calming the mind. The prescriptions are based on modifications of formulas such as Guipi Decoction, Guigan Longmu Decoction, Huanglian Wendan Decoction, Chaihu Shugan Powder, and Anshen Dingzhi Pills.
