Clinical Study on Spleen-Fortifying,Dampness-Resolving and Stasis Dissolving Dietary Prescription for Intervention in Chemotherapy-Induced Diarrhea in Colorectal Cancer of Spleen Deficiency and Phlegm Blended with Blood Stasis Type
Abstract: Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of spleen-fortifying, dampness-resolving and stasis dissolving dietary prescription in intervening chemotherapy-induced diarrhea (CID) in colorectal cancer of spleen deficiency and phlegm blended with blood stasis type, and to explore its effect on improving patients' functional status. Methods:A total of 66 colorectal cancer patients of spleen deficiency and phlegm blended with blood stasis type who received postoperative chemotherapy in the Oncology Department of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine between March and December 2023 were selected. They were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group using a random number table method, with 33 cases in each group. The control group received symptomatic care combined with a placebo intervention, while the observation group received symptomatic care combined with the spleen-fortifying, dampness-resolving and stasis dissolving dietary prescription intervention. Both groups were treated for 10 days. Diarrhea, abdominal pain, stool consistency grading, Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) score before and after the intervention,as well as the incidence of diarrhea and abdominal pain after the intervention were compared between the two groups. Results: After the intervention, the grading of diarrhea, abdominal pain, and stool consistency improved in the observation group compared to before the intervention and was superior to that in the control group, with differences being significant (P<0.05). In the control group, there were no significant differences in the grading of diarrhea, abdominal pain, and stool consistency compared to before the intervention( P>0.05). After the intervention, the KPS score in the observation group increased compared to before the intervention and was higher than that in the control group, with differences being significant (P<0.05). After the intervention, the incidence of diarrhea was 46.88% (15/32) in the observation group, which was lower than 75.00%( 24/32) in the control group, with the difference being significant( P<0.05). The incidence of abdominal pain was 34.38% (11/32) in the observation group, lower than that of 65.63% (21/32) in the control group, with the difference being significant (P<0.05). Conclusion:The spleen-fortifying,dampness-resolving and stasis dissolving dietary prescription can effectively alleviate diarrhea and abdominal pain, and improve the functional status of colorectal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy of spleen deficiency and phlegm blended with blood stasis type.
