Introduction to FU Xiaojun's Experience in Treating Diabetic Nephropathy from the Perspective of "Starting in the Spleen, Evolving in the Collaterals, and Ultimately Affecting the Kidney"
Abstract: This article introduces Professor FU Xiaojun's clinical experience in treating diabetic nephropathy. Professor FU believes that diabetic nephropathy "starts in the spleen, evolves in the collaterals, and ultimately affects the kidney." "Failure of the spleen to distribute essence and transport nutrients" serves as the initial trigger for the disease. Pathological products such as phlegm, dampness, and stasis combine and stagnate, transforming into toxins over time, obstructing the kidney collaterals, which constitutes the core process of disease progression. As the condition deepens,it "ultimately affects the kidney," leading to late-stage syndrome types characterized by spleenkidney failure and internal retention of turbid and toxins. Based on this, Professor FU has established a treatment system of "regulating the middle energizer, unblocking the kidney collaterals, and tonifying the spleen and kidney": first emphasizing fortifying the spleen and boosting qi to restore the transportation and transformation functions of the middle energizer, thereby preventing the generation of turbid pathogens at the source;focusing on resolving turbidity, removing toxins, activating blood circulation, and unblocking collaterals to clear obstructed kidney collaterals; and fundamentally tonifying both the spleen and kidney to consolidate essence, warm yang, and transform qi.
