Abstract:Objective:To analyze the medication rules for cough treatment recorded in Zheng Zhi Zhun Sheng· Lei Fang( Categorization of Formulas from the Standards for Diagnosis and Treatment) based on data mining techniques. Methods: Oral formulas for cough with complete composition and clear indications were screened from the Cough chapter of Zheng Zhi Zhun Sheng·Lei Fang. Drug names were standardized according to the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, and a standardized database was established. Methods including frequency analysis of herb use, statistical analysis of the four properties, five flavors, and meridian tropisms, association rule analysis, Phi correlation analysis, and hierarchical cluster analysis were employed to identify the core herbs, combination characteristics, and syndrome type compatibility rules for cough treatment recorded in Zheng Zhi Zhun Sheng · Lei Fang. Results : A total of 113 prescriptions were included, involving 170 distinct Chinese herbal medicines. Seventeen herbs had a frequency of ≥10 uses. The top five herbs in descending order were Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma,Pinelliae Rhizoma,Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Armeniacae Semen Amarum, and Poria. In terms of the four properties, warm herbs were most common; among the five flavors, sweet, bitter, and pungent accounted for the highest proportions; meridian tropisms were mainly lung and spleen meridians. Association rule analysis identified high confidence and high support core herb pairs such as Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus-Farfarae Flos-Armeniacae Semen Amarum and Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma-Poria. Hierarchical cluster analysis yielded three core herb combinations for syndromes of spleen-lung qi deficiency, wind cold with stagnated heat, and lung heat with dryness. Conclusion:The treatment principle of cough in Zheng Zhi Zhun Sheng·Lei Fang primarily uses Chinese herbal medicines that fortify the spleen and benefit the lung, resolve phlegm and relieve cough, and clear heat and moisten dryness. The treatment principle is primarily the use of both cold and warm herbs, supplementation and drainage, and simultaneous treatment of the lung and spleen.
